LAB DIAMONDS 101

What’s the difference between lab and natural diamonds?

What’s the difference between lab and natural diamonds?

Lab and natural diamonds have the exact same physical, chemical, and optical properties. The difference lies in origin: lab diamonds are created in controlled environments, while natural diamonds form over millions of years in the earth. Even gemologists need specialized equipment to tell them apart. Lab diamonds offer a more socially conscious and less environmentally harmful alternative — no lives are at risk in their creation.

What’s the difference between lab diamonds and moissanite?

What’s the difference between lab diamonds and moissanite?

Moissanite is a completely different gemstone with its own chemical makeup. While diamonds (both lab and natural) rate 10/10 on the Mohs scale, moissanite is 9.25–9.5, still suitable for everyday wear. Moissanite offers great value and extra sparkle, but has different optical properties than a diamond. The price difference becomes more significant in higher carat sizes, since moissanite is priced by millimeter and lab diamonds by carat weight.

Why would someone choose moissanite over a lab diamond?

Why would someone choose moissanite over a lab diamond?

It depends on your cut, carat size, and design preferences. Our team is unbiased and experienced in both stones. We’re happy to help you explore both options and make the best decision for your vision and budget.

Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut matter, but they don’t tell the full story. Many lab diamonds are over or under graded. Our team hand selects and vets every stone for symmetry, sparkle, bowtie effect, and proportion. We reject dozens to find the perfect one for your ring.
